Returned Hostage Alex Dancyg Buried at Kibbutz Nir Oz
08-26-24 – The recovery of the October 7 hostage Alex Dancyg concluded yesterday in his burial at Kibbutz Nir Oz. The memory of the kidnapping will not fade because the tears of his granddaughter remind us of all that didn’t happen on behalf of Alex and the other hostages.
Beit Warszawa and Beit Polska remember Alex Dancyg and his spouse, Anna Mariola Rozanska as well as their family. Our chair Hania Gawronska-Spiewak has been in the forefront of the leadership seeking to call attention to the hostage situation.
So much will be written about this remarkable teacher and spiritual leader. Even in his hostage captivity he continued to teach and lecture. Alex’s topic was in the roots of his birth in Poland (1948) to survivors and in his leadership as a teaching historian for Yad v’Shem. Bringing Israeli youth to Poland and connecting Polish youth to the history of the Holocaust was just one of the two-way avenues he traversed.
The far off former Israeli residents of Northern California remember him as their beloved high school teacher. The professional guides in Poland looked to Alex for their seasoned training.
