Will Wikipedia Withstand the Test of Historical Truth?

The Rewriting of Holocaust History on the World’s 7th Most Popular Website

For the past few years, a group of Wikipedia editors has been spreading disinformation on the history of the Holocaust. With no obvious ties to any government, they slowly but relentlessly hack away at reason and accuracy to promote ideological zeal, prejudice, and bias. Due to this group’s handiwork, Wikipedia’s coverage of Holocaust history follows a narrative touted by right-wing Polish nationalists. Its articles whitewash the role of Polish society in the Holocaust and bolster stereotypes about Jews, spinning fantastical tales about Jews’ involvement in large-scale crimes against Poles, and wildly inflating the scope of Jewish collaboration with the Nazis.

Thoughts on Parashat Beha’alotcha

In the Bible, the Divine wrath is typically seen as a punishment, exerted on Israelites or other peoples. The same is true of this week’s Torah portion; however, there are nuances that make this story different from other biblical accounts of the Divine anger and punishment. The first thing worth noticing here is that if we slightly change the language and its underlying logic this particular Divine wrath can be[…]

Thoughts on Parashat Bamidbar

We perform mitzvot and do many things to achieve certain goals. We do them because they are meaningful, because they improve our life and the life of others; we expect the desirable outcomes to happen; among positive outcomes of our actions there are things we perceive as ‘rewards’, ‘changes we want to happen’ etc. Some of those expected outcomes can be considered miracles, depending on their likelihood within the state of matters at the moment we wish something to[…]

Refleksja nad paraszą Bamidbar

W naszym życiu wypełniamy wiele micwot i robimy wiele rzeczy, aby osiągnąć określone cele.

Little Things That Change the World

Thoughts on Parashat Behar-Bechukotai

I was born in Poland, in a country where many fundamental human freedoms were taken away for 45 years; they were taken away by autocrats who believed that the historical progress of humanity gave them knowledge of the ultimate causes of all injustices in the human world. They believed that this awareness gave them a never ending mandate to rule the country. One of the reasons their reign lasted so long was that no one was able to question, or even to point out at their limited knowledge, narrow understanding of history, their arrogance and power-greed. But there were also other reasons why this system[…]
