Last year Jewish communities around the world enjoyed the music of several singing and instrumental groups organized by the Progressive Congregation Teyva, in Lviv, Ukraine. We raised funds to sustain wartime efforts to aid Ukrainians fleeing from the eastern parts of the country, including women and children. Teyva’s Shabbat in a bag program, medical supplies, and hospitality are several of their notable efforts.

We warmly invite you to join the concert prepared by the Jewish Progressive community in Lviv. Congregation TEYVA is a home to several groups performing Yiddish music, including Sheyne Meydelekh Ensemble, Shtrudle Band & Mames un Tekhter Quartet. The Teyva community, founded 14 years ago, is a unity of people who are dedicated to developing progressive Jewish life in Lviv and now are deeply involved in supporting refugees fleeing the eastern part of the country. The name Teyva, meaning an Ark, is very symbolic for those tasks.
As one of Teyva members wrote: “At the best of times, our ensemble had a large instrumental composition, now our girl drummer is fighting in Armed Forces of Ukraine, one of our clarinet-players in Kharkiv under Russian bombs and missile attacks, one of the soloists in Sumy, was recently in fierce battles with the invaders…. We very much hope that by the time of the concert the situation will improve significantly and all our colleagues will be healthy and safe.” Even in these difficult times, we can connect to share our music with the aim of preserving its inspiration to all of us.
Featuring the Lviv, Ukrainian Community Musical Groups from the Progressive Jewish community, Teyva.
